Anson County Implements Prescription Drug Card Program


Beginning on April 16, 2007 Anson County will launch a discount prescription drug card program to assist its citizens with the rising cost of prescription drugs. This card will be available FREE to all citizens under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo).


Who can use the prescription drug discount card?
The cards may be used by all county residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage. The card offers significant savings (average of 20%) for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Anson County.
Those residents with prescription coverage can use the card to save money on drugs that are not covered by their health plan. Residents do not have to be Medicare beneficiaries to be eligible for this program.

How much does the discount drug card cost?
Your prescription discount card is provided to you FREE via a partnership between the County of Anson, the National Association of County Commissioners and Caremark, Inc.

How does the card work?
The NACo prescription discount card is easy to use. All one has to do is present the card at a participating pharmacy (all pharmacies in Anson County are covered). There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no limitation on the frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.

Who should I call if I have a question?

Does everyone in my family need there own individual card?
No. The card can be shared among family members.

How soon before I can use the card?
You may begin using the card immediately for savings. Present your prescription discount card at a participating retail pharmacy when you fill or refill your prescriptions.

If I lose my care, how can I get a replacement?
Replacements can be obtained at any of the Anson County distribution locations or by calling toll free 1-877-321-2652.

Will the card allow me to obtain discounts on over-the-counter products and nonprescription medications?
Typically no. However, discounts are available for many diabetic supplies.

Is this prescription discount card different from insurance?
YES. This plan is not insurance; it is a prescription discount program. The card provides discounts at participating pharmacies. You will pay the lower of a discounted price or the pharmacy's regular retail price. There are no claim forms to fill out and no limit to the number of times you can use the card.

Can I use my prescription discount card with my current insurance benefit to reduce my costs?
The card cannot be used in conjunction with insurance. You are able to use the cards to purchase prescriptions that are not covered by your insurance plan(s).

Pharmacy and Pricing Questions

Which pharmacies accept the card?
All retail pharmacies in Anson County currently accept the prescription drug discount card. Additionally, the prescription discount card is accepted at over 55, 000 retail pharmacies across the United States, including many of the major chains drug stores.

How much will I save?
Savings will vary, but one may save an average of 20 percent off of the pharmacy's regular retail prices for prescription drugs.

Will I always receive the lowest price?
Yes. You will receive the best price available at the pharmacy.

What is the Caremark Mail Service Program?
With the Caremark Mail Service program, an individual can purchase up to a 90-day supply of select medications for a fixed price. To get started, simply send in the mail service order form along with your original prescription, to Caremark.
